What is the purpose of this course?


117897 – Maintain stock balances in a distribution centre

This unit standard is aimed at people who have to maintain stock balances in a DC/Warehouse environment.

They will need to access and interpret information on stock record-keeping systems, analyse and monitor stock movement, initiate and control stock counts and record details on record-keeping systems in order to maintain and update stock balances.

 

117901 – Receive stock in a DC/Warehouse

This unit standard is intended for people who will receive stock in a distribution centre or warehouse. Persons credited with this unit standard operate in a number of contexts, of which some may be non-routine. They demonstrate the ability to make comparisons and interpret available information.

 

These persons are able to receive stock in a DC/warehouse, implement security procedures to prevent shrinkage and losses and enhance the efficiency of the supply chain by recording required information on stock being received.

 

119454 – Maintain and adapt oral/signed communication

This unit standard will be useful to learners who need a sound foundation of spoken/signed language ability for further language growth, and for application in real life contexts. Learners talk/sign confidently in both formal and informal contexts and /sign actively for ideas and information in interactions with other people. They are aware of the ways others speak/sign to influence listeners and audiences. In conveying their ideas and information they select language and a register that is accessible to their audience and fit for their purpose.

 

244504 – Describe and explain the principles of logistics support in a specific context

This unit standard will enable learners to improve professionalism and enhance the quality and effectiveness of services by being able to describe and explain the principles of logistics support in a specific context.

  • Prevent shrinkage and losses in the Receiving Area.

  • Update DC stock balances to enhance the efficiency of the supply chain.

  • Use a variety of strategies to maintain communication.

  • Adapt language to accommodate socio-cultural sensitivities without losing own meaning.

  • Use knowledge of language structures and conventions to shape or decode meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary or constructions.

  • Organise and present information in a focused and coherent manner.

  • Identify and explain how speakers/signers influence audiences.

  • Explain the role of logistics as they apply to a specific operation.

  • Understand supply chains and the movement of materials within supply chains.

  • Describe logistics activities in a specific operation.

  • Describe the concepts relating to inventory that are applicable to a specific operation. 



What is the pre-requisite for this course?


It is assumed that you are competent in:

  • Communication at ABET NQF level 4.

  • Mathematical Literacy at ABET NQF Level 4.
